Omgeving en activiteiten
Merelbeke maakt deel uit van de Vlaamse toeristische regio Scheldeland. Scheldeland ligt centraal in Vlaanderen, tussen de steden Antwerpen, Brussel, Gent en Mechelen. De toeristische regio Scheldeland strekt zich uit over delen van de provincies Oost-Vlaanderen en Antwerpen. Scheldeland wordt gekenmerkt door drie rivieren: Schelde, Dender en Rupel. Ook andere waterwegen als Durme, Zenne, Nete, Dijle, Kanaal Brussel-Schelde en Kanaal Leuven-Dijle markeren het landschap. Met 277 kilometer bevaarbare waterwegen en ontelbaar veel grote en kleine waterplassen is Scheldeland veruit de meest waterrijke regio van Vlaanderen. De autovrije, verharde jaagpaden en dijkwegen langs de waterlopen zorgen, samen met de typische veren, voor uren wandel- en fietsplezier.
Munte is een typisch voorbeeld van een kouterdorp, waarbij de kerk en de oude hoeven gebouwd zijn in de omgeving van bronnen. De naam ‘Munte’ is afgeleid van het Romaanse ‘Montem’ en betekent berg. De verwijzing naar de heuvelrug waarop het dorp ligt, is meer dan terecht. Met bochtige wegen, pittige paadjes en uitgestrekte velden, is het uitzicht over de kouters in Munte adembenemend. In Munte bevinden zich nog 25 bunkers, stille getuigen van de vroegere verdedigingsgordel rond Gent in de aanloop naar de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Naast de bunkers kan je in deze landelijke deelgemeente nog veel erfgoed bezoeken. De pastorie en het voormalige klooster van Munte, de voormalige hoeve met oliemolen, de roepsteen, de motte en het kasteel zijn enkele voorbeelden van de rijke geschiedenis van dit historisch kruispunt van oude wegen. Munte wordt in één adem genoemd met artistieke beleving.

Fietsen
De fietskaarten van de fietsnetwerken Scheldeland, Vlaamse Ardennen en de Leiestreek Oost en West kan je kopen in het Infopunt. Stippel zelf je tocht uit langs de knooppunten. Lang of kort, met klimmetjes of volledig vlak: je hebt het zelf allemaal in de hand. Voor je vertrekt, stel je op de kaart je eigen parcours samen, door een aantal knooppunten op een rijtje te zetten. De afstand tussen twee knooppunten staat op de kaart vermeld, zodat je op voorhand weet hoe lang je tocht precies zal zijn. Eenmaal op de fiets, volg je gewoon de bordjes die je van het ene naar het andere knooppunt leiden. Er is ook een mountainbikeroute, voor wie het nog avontuurlijker wil!

Gent
Natuurlijk is Gent dichtbij: zo’n 15km. Gent is een romantische stad vol schitterende architectuur, historische gebouiwen en gezellige pleintjes. Veelbezochte bezienswaardigheden zijn het stadhuis, de Sint Baafskathedraal (daterende uit de 13e eeuw), Het Gravensteen, Het Belfort en de Lakenhalle en de Gras- en Korenlei. In juli gaan hier ook de Gentse Feesten door.
Oudenaarde
Munte hoort toeristisch dan wel bij het gebied ‘Scheldeland’, het ligt ook op de grens met de ‘Vlaamse Ardennen’. Oudenaarde is dan ook op een fietsafstand van 16km. Oudenaarde heeft de charme van een gezellige historische stad aan de Schelde. Geef je ogen de kost op de Markt, ontdek de wielergeschiedenis en heden in het Centrum van de Ronde Van Vlaanderen, bezoek het MOU en herbeleef de rijke historie of proef een Bruintje van Oudenaarde.
Wandelen
Maak je liever een wandeling? Merelbeke beschikt over een mooi patrimonium, kilometerslange wandel- en fietspaden. Ook dan ben je in het toeristisch infopunt aan het juiste adres. We bieden een wandelkaart aan van zowat iedere deelgemeente. Een greep uit het aanbod: de Asselkouterroute, Bunkerroute, Erfgoedwandelingen in Lemberge, Merelbeke centrum, Melsen, Bottelare en Munte, het Kapellekenspad, het Kwenenbospad, het Liedermeerspad en de vele Trage Wegen. We ontwikkelen voortdurend nieuwe wandelingen en bieden ook een aantal wandelkaarten uit de buurgemeenten aan. Merelbeke
Merelbeke ligt 4km van de camping. Hier is een overdekt zwembad met allerlei attracties en sauna. Ook is er in Merelbeke een winkelcentrum.
Environment and activities
Merelbeke is part of the Flemish tourist region Scheldeland. Scheldeland is centrally located in Flanders, between the cities of Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent and Mechelen. The Scheldeland tourist region extends over parts of the provinces of East Flanders and Antwerp. Scheldeland is characterized by three rivers: Schelde, Dender and Rupel. Other waterways such as Durme, Zenne, Nete, Dijle, Canal Brussels-Schelde and Canal Leuven-Dijle also mark the landscape. With 277 kilometers of navigable waterways and countless large and small ponds, Scheldeland is by far the most water-rich region in Flanders. The car-free, paved towpaths and dyke roads along the waterways, together with the typical springs, provide for hours of walking and cycling pleasure.
Munte is a typical example of a coulter village, where the church and the old farms are built in the vicinity of springs. The name "Munte" is derived from the Romanesque "Montem" and means mountain. The reference to the ridge on which the village is situated is more than justified. With winding roads, tough paths and extensive fields, the view over the fields in Munte is breathtaking. In Munte there are still 25 bunkers, silent witnesses of the former defense belt around Ghent in the run-up to the Second World War. In addition to the bunkers, you can visit a lot of heritage in this rural district. The rectory and the former monastery of Munte, the former farm with oil mill, the rockstone, the motte and the castle are some examples of the rich history of this historic crossroads of old roads. Munte is mentioned in the same breath with artistic experience.
Biking
You can buy the cycling maps of the cycling networks Scheldeland, Flemish Ardennes and the East and West Leie region at the Info Point. Plan your trip along the nodes yourself. Long or short, with climbs or completely flat: you have it all under control. Before you leave, you put together your own route on the map by lining up a number of nodes. The distance between two nodes is indicated on the map, so you know in advance exactly how long your trip will be. Once on the bike, just follow the signs that lead you from one junction to another. There is also a mountain bike route, for those who want it even more adventurous! Explore the flat land of the Schelde by bicycle or meet the calf-biters of the Flemish Ardennes. You can rent one of the 6 ladies' and 6 men's bicycles for 10 euros per day / bike. More information can be obtained from the tourist information and reception point, Munteplein 6, 9820 Munte.
Gent
Of course Ghent is close by: about 15 km. Ghent is a romantic city full of beautiful architecture, historic buildings and cozy squares. Frequently visited sights are the town hall, St. Bavo's Cathedral (dating from the 13th century), Gravensteen, Belfort and Lakenhalle and Gras- and Korenlei. The “Gentse Feesten” (a local festival) also takes place in July.
Oudenaarde
Munte belongs to the tourist area "Scheldeland", it is also on the border with the "Flemish Ardennes". Oudenaarde is therefore within a cycling distance of 16 km. Oudenaarde has the charm of a pleasant historic city on the Schelde. Feast your eyes on the Market, discover the cycling history and present in the Center of the Tour of Flanders, visit the MOU and relive the rich history or taste a “Bruintje” van Oudenaarde (a locally brewed pint).

Would you rather take a hike? Merelbeke has kilometers of walking and cycling paths along the beautiful heritage. Again, you are at the right place at the tourist information point. We offer a walking map of just about every district. A selection from the offer: the Asselkouter route, Bunker route, Heritage walks in Lemberge, Merelbeke center, Melsen, Bottelare and Munte, the Kapellekenspad, the Kwenenbospad, the Liedermeerspad and the many slow roads. We are constantly developing new walks and also offer a number of walking maps from the neighboring municipalities. There are also a number of fixed guided walks, but you can also discuss a tailor-made offer with the guide.
